Maarte, a store that sells glass pipes and bongs, will try to convince the City Council to reopen their business during an appeals hearing Monday night.
The city closed the new store at 3916 Main St. more than a week ago because of an omission on the business application, said Development Coordinator Dave Spurlock. He thought the store was selling "glass art," and didn't learn that really meant "smoking accessories" until he heard a radio announcement.
In accordance with city ordinances, Spurlock said a business license can be revoked if information is left off the application. Neither he nor Mayor Jim Lemon are aware of any other licenses that have been revoked in the city.
